2011, 24 x 24 x 1.5 inches, soil, mold, acrylics and cactus spines on canvas
Created during an artist residency at Joshua Tree National Park. Canvases were buried in desert soil and rocks to accumulate mold and mineral stains before “harvesting” them and sterilizing for painting and safe exhibition. They incorporate cactus spines, original photographic digital images of local plants and handmade paper pulped from ecology reports and sustainable development studies.
