2007, acrylic on canvas, 24 x 24 x 2.5 in., prints available.
A one-month Artist Residency at the Hambidge Center for Creative Arts and Sciences gave me the opportunity to explore Betty’s Creek and the forested mountains along Georgia’s northern border, south of Asheville NC. This piece is part of my project surveying hidden natural environments found below the earth’s surface, under water, and in the expanses of outer space. Using transparent color layers, I abstracted patterns based on cellular structures, plant, animal and soil microorganisms, and autumn leaves lining the local creekbed. Visit my Hambidge photo journal for views of the Betty’s Creek area and it’s inhabitants.
