2007, acrylic on canvas, 20 x 20 x 3 in. NFS, prints available.
This piece is part of a project surveying hidden natural environments found below the earth’s surface, under water, and in the expanses of outer space. Recurring archipelagic patterns appear in a multitude of ecosystems, from macro to micro scale. Here, transparent color layers were used to represent both soil microrganisms and galactic nebulae from interstellar space. The painted image wraps around the 3-inch sides, reinforcing the concept of hidden depths.
